OK, I am level 56, I have fought Octavius about 16 times, and I have some questions....
Where I am: I have collected Cyclops, Igor and Pei, and am still working on Isha and Kamus(Behemoth for you old guys I think). My guild is telling me this is a good set of guys to bring. I assume this is because Igor hits 3 spots at once, and Kamus reduces the defense, and Pei's and Isha's Ults are huge and Cyclops bombs hit 3 spots on rounds 2 and 5.
Do I have that right?
What are the tricks in this fight? I have seen videos where people stack their heroes so they don't get knock back. Is that really important?
Fish: Is there a way to reduce the number of fish that get generated? Sometimes the boss will throw 2 fish at me total for all 5 rounds. Other times I get like 12-16 fish. Is this random?
Is there a reason (besides loot and damage avoidance) to kill the fish?
Octavius: Is there a prefered order to attack the legs of Octavius? Attack the top? Attack the bottom? Attack the weak ones? Attack the strong ones? I have been attacking the fish in rounds 1-3, then ignoring the fish and focusing on the boss in the last 2.
I have just been attacking the boss for the 100 guild coins, but if the guild kills it quicker, that will mean more purple loot for me eventually....

Actually as long as your heroes can't deal a lot of damages, it's almost better "to fish" to get more loots Octavius will trow you 2 fishes once or twice during and the battle, and then every time he can't hit one of your heroes (if they are out of its range). Regarding the best way to attack Octavius, it depends a lot on the stage you are (if some tentacles have already been cut, the whole pattern will change). Now, when Octavius is still with all its tentacles, stacking you heroes so they don't get knock back is a good solution to deal more damages (as they will counter), and one of the best F2P team is the one you talked about (Pei, Cyclop, Kamus, Naga, Igor). Once Octavius as lost some tentacles, I don't exactly know which strategy / teams are the best as I still don't have any HL (I'm level 62). Good Luck

Thanks, I didn't notice that Oct either threw fish, or attacked.
Now I just get some tanks that not only hit hard, but can handle multiple strikes from Oct. Guess that will be more levels and more stars.
Grinding Isha has turned out to be easier than grinding Kamus surprisingly.

If I'm not mistaken, Octavious will throw fish when no melee hero engages its tentacles. Meaning when you use use ALL 5 melees or your melee heroes are all knockbacked, it will keep throwing fish.
